Gateway - University District

Project Summary

Gateway - University District (previously known as South Campus Gateway), is a mixed-use development located on the southern edge of The Ohio State University campus on High Street. The project features restaurants, retail, an eight-screen movie theater, a campus bookstore, university housing and office space. Completed in 2005, Gateway was the result of a multi-year public planning process and the first major project of Campus Partners. The project would not only serve university students but also provide a destination for nearby residents, employees, and visitors from across Columbus.

Significant effort went into the design with emphasis on street level activity and walkability. Infrastructure improvements included a new streetscape, on-street parking, and reconnection of the street grid helped blend the project into the existing urban fabric. A new parking garage was constructed to serve the seven buildings and was screened with residential apartments to transition into the adjacent neighborhood.

Campus Partners assembled the land, secured funding for public infrastructure, and selected a development manager to oversee construction. It is also the conservator of the Gateway Film Center - the nationally recognized non-profit cinema at Gateway that presents a unique mix of art-house and blockbuster films.
